LANDLORD/TENANT LAW
Landlord-Tenant Law: CATHERINE CORFEE, ESQ.
California has many rights for tenants that a wear landlord should be aware of. At Corfee Stone Law Corporation, Ms. Catherine M. Corfee Esq. practices both sides of the law where she has represented Landlords and/or Tenants. Some may find this offensive, however, why wouldn’t you want an attorney that knows both sides of the law and strategies!
Several landlord/tenant issues are often disputed, which include but are not limited to the following:
1. The Landlord’s duty to warrant habitability, a safe place to reside.
2. The Landlord’s duty to return the deposit within 21 days and/or to have itemized the costs to sustain deductions. A landlord can deduct for unpaid rent, cleaning, repairs, etc.
3. The prohibition against a “no pet” policy for the disabled.
4. The duty to reasonably accommodate a disabled resident.
5. The process and procedure for eviction, especially post-covid.
6. Retaliation against a tenant. For example, if a tenant complains about unsafe matters, like mold, the Landlord may not retaliate.
7. The Landlord must provide 24-hour notice before entering the premises.
